    Non-Portuguese students who aim to enter Lusófona University may apply for Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD calls.

    Who can apply?

    International students that meet the following requirements may apply for the study cycles taught at Lusófona University:

    • Holders of a qualification that grants entry into higher education, understood as any diploma or certificate issued by a competent authority establishing approval in an education programme and granting the right to apply for and gain admission into higher education in the country where it was awarded;
    • Holders of a Portuguese Secondary Education Certificate or legally equivalent qualification.

    In order to gain admission to the desired study cycle, international students must:

    • Take the internal admission exams required for the programme they wish to attend. The dates and exam format are defined by the university annually
    • Have knowledge of the language or languages in which teaching will be carried out;
    • Meet the pre-requirements, should there be any, under the terms of applicable legislation.

    The International Student Call applies to students from outside the European Union that are not holders of a higher education qualification who wish to attend a Bachelor’s or Integrated Master’s programme at Lusófona University.

    Who cannot apply?

    The following students are not covered by the definition of international students:

    • Nationals of a member state of the European Union;
    • Family members of Portuguese citizens or nationals from a member state of the European Union, regardless of their nationality;
    • Those who, not being nationals of a member state of the European Union and not being covered by the previous paragraph, legally reside in Portugal for a continuous two-year period on 1 January of the year they wish to be admitted to higher education, as well as the children who legally reside with them;
    • Those who, on 1 January of the year they wish to be admitted to higher education, benefit from a status that grants them equality of rights and obligations granted under an international treaty celebrated between the Portuguese state and the state of which they are nationals;
    • Those that require admission to higher education through the special access and admission regimes regulated by Decree -Law nº 393 -A/99, of 2 October, altered by Decree-Law nº 272/2009, of 1 October.

    It is understood by family members of Portuguese citizens or of nationals of a member state of the European Union, regardless of their nationality:

    • The spouse of a citizen of the European Union;
    • The partner with whom a European Union citizen lives in domestic partnership, constituted under the terms of the law, or with whom the European Union citizen keeps a permanent relationship duly certified by the competent entity of the member state where they reside;
    • The lineal descendant of under 21 years of age or who is dependent on a European Union citizen, as well as that of the spouse or partner in the sense defined in the previous subparagraph;
    • The direct descendent dependent on a European Union citizen, as well as that of the spouse or partner in the sense defined in subparagraph ii).

  • Documents and exams

    Exams

    Those who want to apply for undergraduate and integrated master's degree must take internal admission tests. You need to consult the Application timetable for the admission exams and the examination dates.

    Documents

    • Certificate or Diploma, issued by competent authority, establishing the access condition to higher education in the country of origin*;
    • Certificate or Diploma establishing the completion of the Portuguese Secondary Education or equivalent*;
    • Photocopy of the passport or of another document that is legally equivalent in Portugal;
    • Document establishing knowledge of the medium of instruction of the programme the candidate is applying for (valid for candidates whose qualification certificates of origin are issued in a language other than Portuguese);
    • ENES 2020 File (only if they took the Portuguese national admission exams);
    • Model commitment declaration on honour to be sent by email after the application has been submitted;

    Only for applications to the 1st cycle in Physical Education and Sport:

    • Medical Statement establishing compliance with the pre-requirement for Group E Functional and Physical Fitness, under the terms of the Deliberation of CNAES nº 262/2020, of 24/2 (compulsory on enrolment)

    * Applicable to candidates whose original certificate is issued in a language other than Portuguese.

    All certificates and diplomas issued by foreign states must establish the circumstances of its emission accurately and must be authenticated by the Portuguese Consulate in the issuing country or, when necessary, be attached with an apostille, under the terms of the Hague Convention, and translated into Portuguese by a certified translator when they are written in a language other than Portuguese, Spanish, French or English.

    The above-mentioned documents may be scanned and sent by email. The student must submit the originals to the Academic Services for verification before the beginning of term.

    Should the documents mentioned in the previous paragraph not be submitted to the Services for verification, the student will be barred from attending classes and the University Services will have to inform SEF – Immigration and Borders Service that the student is in a situation of non-compliance.

  • Tuition Fees

    Information on tuition fees

    • Foreign/international students benefit from the same tuition scale (monthly fees) as all other students.
      Fees are due until the 8th of each month.
      Foreign/international students are required to pay the first 2 fees when they enrol.

    • 1. Enrolment fee for students admitted to Universidade Lusófona de Humanidades e Tecnologias for the 1st time;
    • 2. The enrolment fee may be paid in 3 equal and successive instalments in September, October and November;
    • 3. The enrolment fee may be paid in 4 equal and successive fees in October, November, December and January.
    • 4. For International / Foreign Students:
      • Upon enrolment, the International / Foreign Students must pay the first two tuition fees due, based on the number of ECTS they enrolled for in the academic year, considering a minimum of 20 ECTS of enrolment per academic semester. Until this amount has been paid, no certificates will be issued for the student, namely the certificate to obtain a student’s visa
